PRICKLES is an abstract painting that will put a smile on your face whatever day you are having.
The cacti and succulents appeared from a hot mess on the page.
It is never too late, no matter what is happening in your life, something beautiful will come of it. You just have to be patient.
I painted this when I had a week of my day job. I taped 3 pages to the table so I could work on them at the same time.
I used foam rollers, pallet knives, a bottle brush, stencils and paint brushes to paint a hot mess of chaos for the background.
When it was at the ugly stage with what I thought was enough paint, I turned it around and around until something jumped out at me.
I could see saguaro cacti shapes and some pots so I drew around the outlines to keep them. Then I could see strings of pearls, rats tails and astrophytums.
I picked 2 colours for the background and started painting. The pale yellow was awful so I painted over it in red.
I used a white posca to outline the shapes I wanted. I did a green wash on some of the cacti to make them stand out more.
I used fluro pink and orange to highlight pots and flowers.
Then lastly used a posca and uni-ball signo pen to add the tiles and fine marks.
This painting is A3 sized. The in situ phots give you an idea of how this playful abstract painting will brighten up your room in a frame.
Take a look through the photos to see close ups and the evolution from something messy to something recognisable.
