On a rainy day in November 2021, I felt like being playful. I took out my inks and assorted brushes and started playfully painting 2 pages with black. I had a thick Japanese ink brush and a fanned brush. I layered the ink until I was happy then started adding colour. I used my glass dipping pen to loop the ink where it pooled. I striped and dotted the page and kept using my dipping pen to add marks.
After painting so unintentionally I was starting to get stuck. I took a break and sat out in my hammock for a while then came back with fresh eyes.
When it was dry, I used some previously painted paper (left over paint used from my kids classes) and tore it up to add as collage.
On this artwork, the orange paint and matte medium I was using to glue with activated and paint went on my nice white background. My motto is "there are not mistakes in art, only happy surprises", so I just went with it and lightly painted the background with the orange/brown paint. It turned out beautifully.
I put down the inks and got my posca pens, white uniball signo pen and conte pastel pencils and added more marks and a border to make it cohesive.
I loved working on 2 artworks at once. "Midnight waterholes and grevilleas" is the other one.
Once I had finished, this one reminded me of a black Cockatoo and banksias.
This painting is A4 sized on paper.
