On a rainy day in November 2021, I felt like being playful. I took out my inks and assorted brushes and started playfully painting 2 pages with black. I had a thick Japanese ink brush and a fanned brush. I layered the ink until I was happy then started adding colour. I used my glass dipping pen to loop the ink where it pooled. I striped and dotted the page. I used a gumnut to print circles and kept using my dipping pen to add marks.

After painting so unintentionally I was starting to get stuck. I took a break and sat out in my hammock for a while then came back with fresh eyes.

When it was dry, I used some previously painted paper (left over paint used from my kids classes) and tore it up to add as collage.

I put down the inks and got my posca pens, white uniball signo pen and conte pastel pencils and added more marks  and a border to make it cohesive.

I loved working on 2 artworks at once. "Of cockatoos and banksias" is the other one.

Once I had finished, this one reminded me of swimming in waterholes at midnight under the stars and grevilleas.

This painting is A4 sized on paper.

The in situ photos give you an idea of how this gorgeous painting will brighten up your room.

Take a look through the photos to see close ups and the evolution from something messy to something recognisable.
