One morning I had the urge to paint 2 really tall canvases at once. I put them out to dry and take progress photos. What I didn’t expect was the way the fern shadows danced on the canvases.
One looked like fern shapes and the other looked more like feathers.
I quickly grabbed some oil pastels and traced the shapes.
I brought the canvases back in and worked them some more, layering and layering colours.
The blue version, Fern, was created but the red background sat on the shelf for 3 years.
When it called to me again, the face flowed easily with acrylics and poscas. The collage however had different plans. I faffed about for hours trying to work out the right colour combination. I really struggled!
I reworked the oil pastel leaves adding some more blue and red to tone down the bright yellow.
I added a white posca border to tie in with "Fern". I painted the edges too so it can be hung straight away and added lots of final posca details to her face.
